Supreme Court Rejects Mexico’s $10 Billion Lawsuit Against U.S. Gunmakers

On June 5, 2025, the United States Supreme Court issued a clear and decisive ruling in a closely watched case—Mexico v. Smith & Wesson, part of a broader $10 billion lawsuit brought by the Mexican government against several American firearm manufacturers. The decision was 9–0, with Justice Elena Kagan writing the opinion for the unanimous Court. This ruling reaffirms protections granted under the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), and rejects attempts to hold manufacturers civilly liable for criminal misuse of firearms in foreign nations
